Since becoming a mom, it’s been really important for me to figure out how to bring my little one into the activities I enjoy and things I value. As someone who has come to appreciate different forms of movement and deeply enjoy the outdoors, hiking is our shared adventure.
And living in Northern Minnesota, we have access to SO many beautiful state parks. For me, there’s nothing like spending an hour or two outdoors, moving my body, and taking in the views to really put me in a state of gratitude. I swear by it, actually, and often find myself recommending this activity to my coaching clients.
My two favorite parks near Duluth are jay cooke and gooseberry falls. If my son and I are looking to spend a couple of hours exploring, jay cooke is a fun option! The swinging bridge over the river near the park center never gets old. When we have the majority of the day, we will travel up the shore to gooseberry falls. It’s so easy to make a day out of it. We take our time stopping along the shoreline, finding a bite to eat or having our picnic somewhere at a beach, and combing the beach for agates. By the time we make it to gooseberry we are ready for the waterfall action!
So, just a little reminder that if you’re local, this weekend is free park day! I encourage you to take advantage of this offering and get out to a Minnesota state park for free on Saturday. You can read about it here. And for those of you elsewhere, you can get outside this weekend, too! I promise that you won’t regret it. 🙃
In gratitude,
Brittany DeNucci
