How to Know if a Life Coach is a Good Fit for You by Brittany DeNucci

Updated: Aug 9, 2024

Life coaching is a form of personal development that is designed to help people set and achieve goals, improve their performance, and make positive changes in their personal and professional lives. A life coach is a supportive and goal-focused professional who works with individuals to identify and pursue specific goals, develop strategies and action plans, and provide support and accountability as they work towards their goals.

If you are considering working with a life coach, it’s important to choose a coach who is a good fit for your needs and your goals! Here are a few things to consider when evaluating whether a life coach is a good fit for you:

Compatibility It is important to choose a coach who you feel comfortable with and who you feel you can talk to openly. A good coach will be empathetic, understanding, and supportive, and they will be able to create a safe and welcoming environment for you to work in.

Experience & Training Look for a coach who has experience working with clients on similar goals and challenges to your own. It may also be helpful to ask for references or to speak with other clients who have worked with the coach in order to get a sense of their coaching style. Consider the training the coach has undergone in order to support others and if that aligns with what you’re looking for.

Approach & Philosophy Consider the coach's approach to coaching and their overall philosophy. Do they have a style and approach that aligns with your needs and goals? Do they have a clear plan for how they will work with you to achieve your goals? Do they not only coach, but provide education and resources to help you on your personal development journey?

Availability & Flexibility Consider the coach's availability and flexibility. Do they offer sessions at times that are convenient for you? Are they able to accommodate your scheduling needs? How do they communicate scheduling changes with clients?

Value & Cost Consider the value and cost of the coaching services. Is the coach offering a fair price for their services, considering their experience and credentials? Are you getting value for your investment in coaching? Is the coach using a business model that can accommodate your financial needs?

Ultimately, the decision of whether to work with a life coach is a personal one and will depend on your individual needs and goals. Don't be afraid to ask questions and get to know the coach before committing to work with them! A coach will be prepared to answer your questions, walk you through their process and share about their individual approach, and provide information to help you make an informed decision.

Warmly,
